Faith over Performance

Updated: Nov 24, 2022

And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.

Hebrews 11:6 ESV

Sometimes I tried hard to do the things I thought God wanted me to do. I used to struggle with self-acceptance, and had a hard time dealing worrying whether or not people will accept me because of my belief, and unconsciously "performed" for others in order not to be rejected.

However, I learned along the way that all my efforts to please God are fruitless when my motivation is to please people instead of pleasing God. Of course there should be a balance there between respecting people and also respecting our own value, but pleasing people should not be the basis of our relationship to honor God.

All God wants is to honor Him and make Him the master of every aspect of our life, no grey areas excluded -- He wants a 100% control, not 99.9 %. And faith is the tool God has given us to do the impossible He has called us to carry out, in order to align our heart with His. Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1). Our faith is the living proof of His Lordship over our life.

Everything we do, without faith, is in vain. God values faith. God values trust. God values relationship over performance.
